Genetic Counseling
Genetic counseling is the process by which a patient who
is at risk of disorder that may be hereditary, and the patients
relatives are given information about the consequences of
that disorder , the probability of developing or transmitting
it and the ways in which it may be prevented or managed.
Fetal medicine consultant takes an appropriate
history and takes the responsibility of counseling the couple
and the relatives. In case a certain anomaly is detected
in the fetus the consultant explains the condition, its
consequences and the options open to manage the condition
including prenatal investigations like
karyotyping. If the condition is lethal the fetal medicine
consultant provides details of the options of termination.
